Compact loudspeakers handle multi-channel audio content well, except for deep bass down to 40 Hz and lower. Subwoofers can take on the missing bass content using bass management, whereby serving dual roles: a) reproducing the LFE channel and b) extending low frequencies for screen (LCR) and surround channels. Despite the different bandwidths for these tasks, this workshop outlines a solution — for standardized loudspeaker setups — that maintains phase-aligned crossovers. It also ensures optimal integration of both LFE channel and bass-managed audio — even with varying crossovers — with screen and surround channels.
Bass Management Revisited: How to maintain phase-alignment for Screen, LFE, and Surround channels in standardised loudspeaker configurations.
